Video Volunteers

Our SaathNirbhar Story:
The journey of Video Volunteers has been that of adaptability, awareness building and targeting false rumors around Covid-19. Taking a step up and becoming the carriers of right information, the Video Volunteers traveled across numerous tea gardens in North Bengal for the sole purpose of addressing wrong information around covid that was quickly spreading among the workers. Despite the pandemic, scare and hysteria in these remote regions, more than 20 young people motivated to help in any way possible gathered together using WhatsApp. The Video Volunteers mobilized, and acted taking up the challenge with smiling faces and brave hearts.
About Us:

VV empowers marginalized people to tell their stories and create change campaigns, so that their issues come out from under the rug and become important threads in India’s development narrative. VV believes the world would be a better place if the voices of thousands joined together to amplify every single cry for justice. We believe that marginalized citizens have as much of a right to be seen and heard as the privileged do. Today, technological advances make it possible—we believe imperative— for journalism and developmental decision-making to become more inclusive and bottom up. We believe that strong alternate voices in the media – representing a diversity of genders, cultures, castes, religions, geographies and socio-economic groups – are crucial to a vibrant democracy. But the fact is, on any given day in India, only 2% of content in mainstream media addresses the issues of the rural areas, where 70% of the population lives. The media does not, yet, show us the real India.
