Jabardast Jagrik

UNFPA, REC Foundation, ComMutiny-The Youth Collective and Yeh Ek Soch Foundation with its member organisations launch the second phase of the ‘Be a Jagrik’ project

The need to nourish and nurture the power of young people and enable them to realise this potential has never been as urgent as it is today, in a changing world gripped by a pandemic. Young people are clearly among the more vulnerable to these changes. Equally importantly, they have the idealism, energy and resourcefulness to access better life options for themselves and their communities. Today, the second phase of ‘Be a Jagrik’ – an initiative aimed at building leadership among youth, and enabling them to become Jabardast Jagriks (which literally translates into awakened, aware and active citizens), takes on special meaning.

This is a collaborative initiative among UNFPA, REC Foundation, ComMutiny-The Youth Collective and Yeh Ek Soch Foundation along with its six UP collective member organisations – Awadh People’s Forum, Badlav Sansthan, Bewajah Samiti, De-Haath Society, Gramya Sansthan, Vanangana. It seeks to build a scenario where social action projects addressing issues of universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights enshrined in the ICPD agenda and UNFPA DNA, are truly co-designed, co-owned and co-led by young people. This is part of the natural “identity-quest” of young people, and helps them discover how inextricably their well-being is linked to that of their community.
