North East Network

Our SaathNirbhar Story:
Even for a person who has worked as a senior social worker, Covid-19 was an unprecedented situation. Monisha Behal, one of the founding members of North East Network received continuous and desperate phone calls seeking help during the lockdown. As Northeast encountered twin disasters -Covid followed by floods, violence against women were at a rise. Behal’s initiative with government officials made Assam develop a SOP on women’s access to shelter homes among other relief work. Even in this adversity, Behal’s sole aim was to help people with a smiling face and a hopeful heart and that’s what she did.
About Us:

North East Network has been nurturing the women’s movement of north east India
from grassroots to the global context, for more than 25 years. At this juncture NEN has
expanded its outreach from VAW to different but equally important arenas which include
the rights of adolescents, providing a platform to the weavers and women farmers for
showcasing their traditional skills as well as their ownership and stake in the local ecology and biodiversity. NEN also collaborated with Dusty Foot to initiate the Green Hub Project - a youth centric project on environment conservation
