InSIDE-North East

Integrated Social & Institutional Development for Empowerment (InSIDE-North East) as a non-profit organisation is the culmination of the long quest of passionate people for better society; these people grew up in conflict environments and get tired of violence, injustice and poverty. It is an initiative of likeminded people with same passion who came together voluntarily to work collectively in coherent manner for the betterment of the society in general and the children, youth and women in particular.
Conflict and violence in Manipur have done lots of damages and cost many lives. It causes untold misery especially to children, women and youth. The cries of mothers for their love ones, the sight of youngsters living with substance abuse and guns, the pathetic plight of women and girl child were the igniting factors. The questions ‘how long should people suffer like this?’ ‘why don’t we do something to mitigate the sufferings?’ are the burning and good questions that ultimately leads to the formation of an organisation called InSIDE-North East, where a group of passionate youth step out of their comfort zone and started giving their best to the society in ways of providing counseling, career guidance, coaching, talent hunt, skills training, workshops, peace concert and general conference. They also promoted women initiated micro-enterprises support as part of women empowerment with the conviction that if a mother is empowered the whole family is empower. Sport is also one of the strategies they used to mainstream the youngsters and as a connecting factor for peace. All these activities are done without any support from outside. They outsource the local funds, mobilise the community and raise funds through concerts and donation.

One thing InSIDE-northeast is proud of is the cooperation, trust and love of the community people.
Our desire future:
InSIDE-north east wants to see a just and peaceful society by being more a platform and less an organisation through a strong network with likeminded organizations where empowered people reclaim their legitimate rights & entitlements and lead a dignified and self-reliant life free from violence.
Mission
InSIDE-north east would like to achieve its desire future by empowering the powerless, building their confidence and skills, ensuring their livelihood and helping them connect with what is beautiful in their cultural milieu.

▫ Brief description of the fields of activity of the organisation
The organisation fields of activity can be broadly divided into two:
Children & Youth Development: its activities revolve around the Gun2 pen which is a flagship project of InSIDE-North East that aims to empower young people through grass root education, sports and experiential learning. Under it Book Banks (library cum learning centre) are set up in villages and promoted Shom-in (traditional life skills institution) that aim to help young people shun gun culture (violence & conflict) and nurture leadership qualities so that they become socially responsible with democratic values and ensure peace, just and equitable society.
Women Empowerment: Tribal women and girls are always at the receiving end. They have no place in the village and religious administration. Their health is always a big concern. Girl child education is considered secondary. Earning mothers and educated girls comparatively got respect in the society and leads a dignified life.
Under it women micro-business enterprise is encouraged and supported so that earning mothers help a child get education, and vocational training for drop-out girls run so that the trained girls have financial independent and do not become dependent on others. Increase in dignity as a woman is visible from the beneficiaries. Awareness on rights and other various workshops were also conducted for them.
