About their project: :
Gram Chetna climate action hub project seeks to empower communities by mobilising, organising, and training hyperlocal leaders (Praharis), particularly women and youth, to tackle pressing issues like climate change and economic inequality. The project is an initiative aimed at addressing the socio-climatic challenges faced by marginalised communities in Village Shrirampur, Bihar. This project focuses on establishing a local climate action hub that includes a native plant nursery and an agroforestry-based food forest. The hub is designed to serve as a model for catalysing local climate action and fostering community cohesion. Through the hub, Gram Chetna Andolan seeks to empower local leaders, referred to as Praharis, to become climate entrepreneurs, volunteers, and advocates. The initiative aims to mobilise these leaders to organise large-scale native plant plantation drives and develop climate-smart agricultural practices.
