About their project: :
The Green roof/Greeny Urban initiative aims to transform urban rooftops into thriving food gardens, promoting sustainability and community engagement. With a vision to enhance urban food security and foster environmental resilience, the project will create lush, edible landscapes that not only provide fresh produce but also educate and involve the community in sustainable agricultural practices.
The key activities of the project include tree plantation campaigns in collaboration with schools, colleges, and local institutions to enhance green cover and promote biodiversity, community awareness programs, including workshops and meetings, to educate the public on the importance of environmental conservation and the benefits of tree planting. Local youth and students are to be actively engaged in nature awareness programs and trained to care for the planted trees. Agroforestry initiatives incorporate activities like nature walks and butterfly watching to foster ecological awareness and promote sustainable farming practices along with volunteer programs to encourage local communities to participate in tree planting and care, promoting a sense of community ownership over environmental efforts. The project aims to cultivate a variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, which are typically suitable for rooftop gardens. The focus is on creating a sustainable ecosystem that can provide fresh produce for the community & contributing to biodiversity and food security.
