HEART, HEAD AND HANDS
WHAT
A publication containing a module and other resources that aims at supporting trainers and development practitioners in undertaking capacity building and action projects to address issues of gender and GBV.
Some of the materials in the pack were consolidations of processes/ techniques/materials we used during ABC, and others were developed specifically to support those who would like to use the resources as facilitators, to get an overview of the issue and strengthen their own understanding.
HOW
The resource pack is divided into three sections, which are inter-related:
- Section 1 or the Heart section contains a number of session designs that seek to build a connect of the participants with the issue and build their capacities to plan and engage in meaningful action for gender justice.
- Section 2 or the Head section contains a few short pieces that seek to build clarity of a few key concepts and terminologies critical to the gender justice discourse.
- Section 3 or the Hands section contains a list of reference materials and a few resources developed during the process of ABC to support facilitators and practitioners in implementing campaigns/processes for gender justice with a range of audiences/participants.
TO WHAT END
To build a society where there is consensus among the many people about gender as an issue and commitment to counter it with a deep understanding that this is the only solution that can result in the well-being of all.
IMPACT TILL DATE
- The resource pack was disseminated to diverse organizations and trainers across India.
- The module informed the formulation of Mittika’s core approach to capacity building – of systematically using arts based methods to frame learning and development experiences that connect the cognitive (head) with the emotive (heart), and create safe spaces for participants to critically examine assumptions and beliefs, view things from different perspectives, reconstruct social and cultural meaning.
- The Heart, Head and Hands approach subsequently informed and was scaled through the DOR project to build capacities of 12 diverse groups/organizations to work against gender violence.
- Till date, the module has been used extensively by Mittika and over 10 other groups/organizations to engage diverse people in dialog against GBV.
