Madhusmita Brahma

My SaathNirbhar Story:
The Northeast region of India did not only face a shortage of covid relief material but had to deal with discrimination as well. To address this, Madhusmita who is a project manager for the North East circle at the Barefoot College International mobilized more than 50 volunteers to create, edit and translate awareness videos addressing myths, covid guidelines, and vaccination. Line chowkidars showed videos on their mobiles to people having no access to smartphones or the internet. They also disseminated informative worksheets on social/emotional learning, hygiene practices to the children and organized capacity-building sessions for teachers. Madhusmita took a lead role in connecting donors to the hospitals in providing medical supplies and oxygen concentrators. Through teleconsultation, people were connected to the doctors. Volunteers were mobilized who went door to door to check the vitals like B.P., Haemoglobin, diabetes of those who were hesitant to visit the hospital. Patients were connected to the doctors’ group in Rajasthan who prescribed medicines that were delivered on the doorsteps by the volunteers. Despite being panicky and living alone, Madhusmita fought with her apprehensions and fears and redeemed her responsibility towards society. Not a single day went by without the news of a known person’s death. This helplessness motivated her to help as many people as she could.
