Sahyog: The Organization
A non governmentat organization, Sahyog was born in November 2000. During the last 18 years it has grown from strength to strength to strength in it's efforts to change the lives of the poor it is engaged with. Sahyog, meaning cooperation and support with the mission of empowering the urban poor. In 2003 playgroup programmes for preschool children were initiated with a view to inculcating among them the habit of getting used to being away from the security of home and parents and to gradually building confidence in them to enter the formal school. Supplementary classes were organized for school going children who usually had the tendency to dropout after class 7 or 8. The education work gained momentum. By launching two programmes Sangati and play for peace which provided ground for value based learning pertaining to the spirit of cooperation, support and respect for all. Other activities: Though education was the primary focus of the organization was not the only area of involvements. In parallel efforts, adolescents girls were trained in securing livelihood. Promoting youth organizations were another important facet of the organization. The youth
group worked for development of self and the community.
The CRY association:
After it's association with CRY, Sahyog diversified and and expanded it's work. The focus of this
endeavour was on enabling the community to access their rights.
Sahyog this, in the process of working over the years, has carved out a niche for itself in the
lives of the people, as a facilitator of people's development to enable the community take
charge and improve the quality of their own lives.
