About Zurange Tushar Sadhu
Belonging to a family of farmers, Tushar has done master’s in social work and volunteered throughout college through NSS on tree plantation, education of children and floor relief in areas like Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Raigad. As a part of his project, he onboarded more than a 100 children from primary schools to set up a kitchen garden inside school premises. He planted 500 trees in the nearby forest with the help of community members and volunteers and aims to plant more in the near future. He also conducted community-level workshops on soil testing, compost making land preparation methods, organic fertilizer and pesticide preparation and health check ups. A seed donation rally was also conducted in the area. The community and students, especially, have actively and enthusiastically participated in the programme and have started to seriously think about the impact they as an individual and community can have on the climate, and the impact climate change can have on their lives. And says that an unprecedented spark has been lit in the Talul about climate change. Tushar plans to develop a biodiversity forest in the village and develop organic farms in the villages of Purankar Taluka by creating farmers’ groups.
