Sohini Bhattacharya
Sohini Bhattacharya is a seasoned intrapreneur and dedicated advocate for social change, boasting over 25 years of experience in the development sector. Currently serving as the President & CEO of Breakthrough, she leads a transnational organisation that operates in the U.S. and India, utilising multimedia, popular culture, leadership development, and community mobilisation strategies to challenge norms perpetuating gender-based violence. Prior to her role at Breakthrough, Sohini co-founded an organisation focused on women's empowerment, worked directly with grassroots communities on livelihood projects, and facilitated market-artisan interfaces.
With a diverse background, Sohini spent a decade at Ashoka Innovators for the Public, where she played a pivotal role in ramping up the India program and contributed to institution building for Ashoka in South Asia. She was instrumental in establishing the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) in India, a branch of EVPA in Asia. Beyond her professional endeavours, Sohini's interests include theatre, dance, cooking, reading, handicrafts, handlooms, and travelling. She actively contributes to various organisations, serving on the boards of Dastkar and Kolkata Sanved, and acting as a Trustee of Read India, a sister concern of Read Global, dedicated to creating community-led sustainable libraries.
