About Shivam Kumar
Shivam Kumar is a dedicated wildlife conservationist and passionate advocate for biodiversity based in Rohtas, Bihar. With a background in Mathematics, Shivam initially pursued a career in banking but made a pivotal decision to redirect his efforts towards wildlife conservation after witnessing the cruelty and neglect faced by animals. This life-altering experience ignited his commitment to protecting wildlife and promoting environmental awareness. Over the years, Shivam has collaborated with various organisations, including the forest & horticulture department, Nehru Yuva Kendra, and Kamur Wildlife Sanctuary. He also serves as a District Coordinator for Bihar Paryavaran Sanrakshan Abhiyan, a wildlife conservation initiative spanning Bihar and Jharkhand; and was selected twice as the district coordinator for organising Big Butterfly Month (BBM), City Nature Challenge (CNC) and Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) in Rohtas. His work involves rescuing snakes, raising awareness about reptiles, bird watching on a regular basis for 150 days to document avian species of Rohtas and dispelling myths within his community regarding wildlife. He is also actively engaged in revitalising ecosystems by inspecting and planting native trees, as well as spreading awareness about endangered bird species.

Badalta Rohtas project seeks to establish a nursery, kitchen gardening, eco-clubs in 15 schools regarding knowledge of environmental conservation & awareness along with butterfly gardens, promotion of sustainable organic agricultural practices with use of natural fertilisers and composting techniques, to promote biodiversity. The initiative would focus on cultivating native medicinal, aromatic and ornamental plants, providing training in nursery management, to create sustainable income opportunities and foster a sense of environmental stewardship among participants. The project would also seek to strengthen partnerships with local government bodies, NGOs, educational institutions, and community organisations. Future plans include the development of necessary infrastructure for the nursery and butterfly park, such as greenhouses, educational facilities, and visitor centres.
