About Prachi Tiwari
Currently pursuing her Bsc from Isabella Thoburn College, Lucknow, Prachi found a deep connection to nature when she was younger because of her brother. She joined her brother’s NGO, Paryavaran Society where she acquired skills required to rescue animals, especially reptiles.
Under her project, three cohorts of 20 school children each perform a series of social action tasks meant to raise awareness on the climate issue. At weekly planned sessions, the participants discussed several topics relating to climate action and then picked up tasks to be carried out within the week. Prachi’s goal was to make climate talk a part of the day-to-day conversation for the participants, which has been successfully carried out.
All participants were instilled with a sense of responsibility through sessions that combined fun with learning, with the final result of shifting thinking from ‘me’ to ‘we’, and reminding young people the agency they have to affect change and the real they can, and should play in the mitigation of the climate crises. Prachi aims to carry forward this solution-oriented thinking and reach out to even more young people and other organizations to widen the net of impact. Taking the learnings of the programme forward, she is also planning to launch her own on-ground activation campaign and collaborate with organizations working towards SDGs.
