Mahak Srivastava

Currently pursuing her master’s in social work from Lucknow University, Mahak has been an active participant in the climate action movement having organized a workshop involving young people to raise awareness on micro-plastics and their disposal. Through this initiative, she reached out to 50 young people on alternative methods of plastic disposal that are safe, effective and help the environment. As a part of her project, she aimed to turn the attention of young people to the grave dangers that await us if we do not take steps towards environmental conservation and protection. She educated the participants on how human activities affect the environment and add to environmental pollution. This was done through a combination of in-class engagement and hands-on activities that involved social action tasks at a community level. These sessions have led to an active youth group in the community involving school and college students and young people from the area who act as a climate change volunteer group and pass on their learning of the crises and the tools to help it. She plans to keep in touch with these volunteers and track their progress, while attempting to reach out to more.
