About their project: :
EcoReform is an innovative initiative aimed at creating the first climate-adaptive green prisons in India. The project seeks to implement sustainable landscaping and a community kitchen garden within the Nuh District prison in Haryana. The initiative would enhance the prison environment through sustainable practices, providing fresh produce, vocational training, and environmental education to inmates, thereby improving their rehabilitation and well-being. By creating a community kitchen garden, the project will not only supply fresh vegetables and herbs but also reduce the heat island effect and improve overall air quality. Key activities include establishing a bio-enzyme unit, composting unit, and raised seed beds, along with developing a curriculum for training inmates in sustainable practices. The initiative is designed to be community-led, with oversight from a Technical Resource Group comprising external subject experts and prison ex-officials, ensuring its effectiveness and sustainability.
