About Jyoti Sharma
Currently pursuing her bachelor’s from Government College, Kishangarh, Jyoti works as a community leader at Magic Bus Foundation. Belonging to a farming family and community, she sees extreme importance and value of that work and wanted to bring that to the children too.
Under her project, she trained students on setting up kitchen gardens in schools. Around 80 students from two government schools in Kishangarh were trained under the programme and barren land on campus was converted into these gardens. Through weekly sessions, she trained the students to work on the garden, taught them the benefits of small-scale farming, and provided context and knowledge on pollution caused by transportation, leading to a rise in carbon levels, thereby making small-scale farming and kitchen gardens a great and effective way of reducing these emissions. The practical sessions entail cleaning of space, preparation for seeds and plants, tree planting and management of climbers.
Jyoti aims to keep in touch with these students and track the progress of their gardens. She also aims to come with projects to work on UN SDGs 2, 5, 6, 10, 16.
