An Agro-ecology scholar , she is dedicated to empowering local women farmers by building a network of "Agripreneurs." Her motivation stems from personal experiences, particularly the challenges her grandmother faced in accessing native healthy food in her old age. Dimum's work focuses on promoting indigenous varieties of millets, aiming to preserve traditional farming practices and enhance local food security. As a skilled storyteller, she emphasises the importance of sustainable agriculture, local food systems, and collaboration with farmers and organisations to preserve natural ecology, tribal identities, and culinary traditions—one crop at a time.
About their project: :
Gepo Aali, which translates to ‘seeds of comfort’, is a dedicated non-profit organization established in 2022, with the mission to sustainably harvest and process underappreciative native food crops and implement eco-friendly farming practices, promoting environmental conservation and social upliftment. The initiative "Green Dreams: Champion a Farm” is dedicated to implementing agroforestry practices in the neglected orange orchards of Dambuk, Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. It employs pilot agroforestry systems on designated sections of the farm owners' land with active youth engagement and comprehensive capacity-building programs designed to equip community members with skills in sustainable farming practices, hospitality management, and entrepreneurial skills. The initiative envisions to revive local biodiversity by promoting indigenous food crops and reducing chemical use in farming. It also addresses the intersection of food and language, preserving traditional agricultural wisdom while engaging the community in climate conversations. Through a monthly four day curated experiential learning residential workshop, Green Dreams project imparts hand-on field instruction helping shape a sustainable model of agroforestry that benefits both the environment and the local community, fostering a culture of ecological awareness and social responsibility.
