About their project: :
EcoSphere project is aimed at transforming barren rooftops into vibrant green spaces. It would create a model rooftop garden at Saint Leela Shah High School in Palghar, Mumbai with the involvement of students and teachers. The garden will serve as a beacon of community awareness and education, encouraging others to replicate this green endeavour in their own spaces. Key activities include selecting suitable containers and soil, choosing plants such as decorative varieties, herbs, and flowers, and setting up an irrigation system. For planting and maintenance, seeds and saplings will be nurtured with careful monitoring of soil and water needs, along with scheduled fertilisation and composting of kitchen waste.
Educational initiatives are designed to build environmental awareness, including teacher training, quizzes, cultural events, and competitions for students and the community. Community engagement efforts will involve local residents, students, and teachers to foster a sense of ownership, with social and local media promotion to reach wider audiences. Additionally, environmental awareness campaigns will cover broader issues, such as drug prevention, to encourage well-rounded wellness. The project includes regular monitoring and evaluation to ensure the garden thrives seasonally and serves as an evolving green space, fostering both community involvement and environmental education.
