About Akhina Mohan
Akhina Mohan VK is a dedicated environmentalist and community leader based in Kannur, Kerala. With a lifelong passion for nature and plants, Akhina pursued a master's degree in environmental science to deepen her understanding of ecological issues. Her commitment to environmental protection was further solidified during her involvement in relief work following the devastating floods in Kerala in August 2018, which served as a transformative experience for her. Recognizing the urgent need for climate action and community engagement, Akhina founded "Alarmo," an initiative aimed at inspiring children and young people to take action for the environment. Her work focuses on raising awareness about climate change, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering a sense of responsibility towards the planet among the younger generation.

Urvi project seeks to engage young people in sustainable practices through hands-on projects like nurseries & kitchen gardens with a strong emphasis on using native species, food forests, butterfly park, and medicinal garden. Through this initiative, alarmo aims to inspire a new generation of environmental stewards committed to protecting and restoring their natural surroundings. It involves the creation of nurseries specifically for native species, awareness campaigns on the role of native plants in ecosystems, community engagement activities for ecological restoration, creation of food forests,development of butterfly parks and medicinal gardens emphasising indigenous plants with medicinal properties along with organisation of training programs for youth to educate them on sustainable practices, indigenous plant importance, and the upkeep of food forests, butterfly parks, and nurseries.
