BEING A SOCIAL WORKER!!!

Every person's journey in life is different but important and can become a teaching tool or learning opportunity for another.  Here I, Priyanuja Bora, facilitating the project BE A JAGRIK- SAMVIDHAN LIVE! from THE EAST, would like to share my  journey till now.

EXPERIENCE: I have joined this project on February, 2020. It had been a great experience and opportunity as well to work with the children of our society and share thoughts about child rights through this project. I got motivated by the active participation of the jagriks. The excitement and enthusiasm of the jagriks is breathtaking. Through this project, BE A JAGRIK- SAMVIDHAN LIVE!, I have been communicating with children through tasks, games and other creative works along with enhancing their knowledge regarding child rights and social issues. I visited different communities and schools, had great time with the jagriks and inspiring the jagriks, as they are a part of the growing community and to become aware citizens in future. The tasks which were assigned to the children regarding burning social issues like child marriage, harrassment, child labour, hygiene which in now very necessary for future India indeed.

LEARNING: I got to learn about the project and accumulated much knowledge regarding child rights as well. Working as a facilitator helped me developing greater learning skills, better relations with people, enhancing my communication skills too. This has also boosted my confidence and helped me become childrenfriendly as well. Though the participants had little idea about their rights and duties, still they lacked in practicing or experiencing in practical. This project can give them an insight to the real issues in the society and also understand the discrimination around them.  Basically, from the view of a facilitator, I feel provision, communication, participation and promotion are the key features to work proficeintly with children leading to a healthy and aware society in future. Although I had a keen ineterest in serving the society, I never had such an opportunity to grab. I hereby thank THE EAST, NARI MANCHA, ASSAM COLLECTIVE for giving me such an opportunity and I hope to have such more opportunities in future.

CHALLENGE: The very first challenge for me was adjusting to the environment, being new to the social work sector. Though I graduated as an AGRICULTURAL ENGINEER in 2019, I never thought I would suddenly make my mind to work as a social worker. In the begining, I lacked a bit of self confidence, as i was already running out of time, but with constant motivations and support from seniors and fellow organisations helped in boosting my confidence and run the programme. Communicating with the jagriks and making space for them to participate in the tasks and management of time was also challenging.
