Right to Freedom of Religion: (Task)

Talk to the religious leaders of 3 different religions about the main tenets of their faith, stories of strong or powerful women in their religion and also the place of women in general. Based on your conversations, create a booklet/ wall paper with your own suggestions on how women can be given equal space in different religions.

Experience:

Anupama Sangma and Mamta Momin started this task on 26/08/2020. As per our task they talked with three different religion’s leaders. Firstly they talked to a Pandit, who is a father of their one of friend. He told them that the Goddess in Hindu culture are symbols of Sakti and Saiva. And Himdu society also had many female rulers such as Rudramadevi, women saint such as Andal etc. He also said that Hinduism portrays women as figures in understanding how the world works. But in general women’s of Hindu society are looked down in many aspects, they are not allowed to go to school, they have to take long veils in this modern era too and female infanticides is also a problem.

According to the Christian Bible, The Lord said, “it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet (fit or suitable) for him.” The line suggests that women are to play a supportive role at man. But in reality women’s are not given the leadership roles in the organized Churches, they are mostly restricted to men.

They also talked to a Islamic person. He said that Islam also give some recognition to women’s rights by regarding men and women as equals in their ability to carry out the wishes of Allah. But we can see that in general women are not permitted to pray during the month of Ramadan, they are not allowed to pray in public places such as Mashjid.

Solutions:

  1. Men should give the position that a women deserve in home or public.
  2. Women’s education should be must.
  3. Women should be given protection in every field so that they may come out to fulfill their dream.
