Sharing Jagrik experience Case -5 (Self) Jagrik Name- Bejoy Singh Organization -SANLAAP Community Group- Cohort no - 2 Task no -FR1SB2 Task -“How are the household chores in your family divided on the basis of gender? Identify and practice one role that you do not usually perform for one week.” Experience – In the basis of gender, my family divided household chores on me, those are listed in the following: • Go to shop /Market. • Carry drinking water from outside. • Go to Ration Shop. • Looking after Pets. Etc. Due to the task implementation, I have chosen cleaning and sweeping entire house through broom, usually I never practice before. I have practiced such activity last one week but till date, I’m continuing such activity. Before me, this work .use to done by our maid. It is a remarkable experience, which I gathered from my family member, especially from my mother. My mother does not want to touch the broom by any male member of my family. She firmly believed that this sweeping work will be purely feminine work; it will be done by women. But I talked about gender and gender discrimination to my mother and there are lots of argument takes place, slowly she realized that the time has change. Learning – • Learning about Gender and Gender discrimination. • No work is disrespectful. • Gaining more Confidence. • Breaking Customs and be an agent for change. Challenges – • How to start the task implementation in my household? • I do not aware about gender and gender discrimination? • How are the household chores in our family divided on the basis of gender? • Breaking the Barriers / Prejudices and our Customs
