Follow/study a few cases on how they provide remedies when rights are violated. Write an article on your experience and insights with your jagriks / cohorts. Experience: My name is Rahul Sutradhar. I am a student of an NGO called “SANLAAP”. The organisation works on child and women rights and if a child’s rights are violated then the organisation helps the child out. There is a girl called Sita (name changed) who also studies at Sanlaap. An incident happened with the girl where her rights were violated. I collected some information about Sita from herself, and her teachers. From this I created a case study and found out the following: [details of the case study reoved to protect confidentiality of the subject] When Sita asked Sanlaap for assistance to help her out, in order to protect her she was kept at a home called “Dishari”. After she turned 18, she left the home and got a well-paying job. She lives independently but also sends money to her own home. She is very thankful to Sanlaap for their support. Sanlaap continues its work on child rights. Learning: 1. Nobody can force a child to do anything just because the person is an adult. 2. A child has the right to express his or her opinion. 3. One cannot force a child to work. Child labout is illegal in India. 4. Child rights comprise of 4 main rights: (i) right to survival, (ii) right to development, (iii) right to protection, (iv) right to participation. Challenges: 1. Because we are in the middle of a lockdown, I faced various problems in collecting data to prepare the case study. 2. I communicated with the teachers of Sanlaap through my mobile phone. Even with their busy schedules, they spared some time for me so that I could gather information. 3. The details of this case study was confidential. It was difficult for me to gather the information. 4. Sita did not wish to share this information with me, but I promised that the information will remain confidential. Then she agreed to share her story with me. 5. I did the entire case study from home. 6. I spoke with everyone over the phone to collect information.
