Any one Can Cook

Lockdown made him break his own stereotypes

He stays in a very little village and remote town of Hailakandi. His name is Naharul. He is a teenager. Just like us, he was also bound to follow the 21-day lockdown which is going on right now in the entire India. The initial days he was very happy because he could enjoy surfing the internet and play mobile games limitlessly which he always desired for. Gradually, he got bored. So, he contacted our facilitator. On enquiring, he came to know that Naharul had nothing more to do except eat, sleep, play and repeat. To kill his boredom and utilize the time constructively, our facilitator Bhudeb asked him to inspect the process of cooking in the kitchen. He had never entered the kitchen before for cooking purposes. At the beginning, both his sister and mother were very upset on his entry to the kitchen. Though he went inside the kitchen as per our facilitator Bhudeb Sinha's instruction, he ended up preparing a very delicious dish.

This small task given to Naharul compelled him to change his thoughts about the society. He realized that his sister and mother put in a lot of efforts in the entire cooking process for the whole family. He also understood that females in almost every household go through this type of situations, be it cooking or any other household chores.

We still live in a patriarchal society. To spend time in the kitchen and do other household stuff should be the choice for the woman which unfortunately in not in our society. Exception in this regard is very rare to see. Since all the members of the family are at home these days, things have doubled up for the ladies of the house. Doing household jobs by the female is a mandatory thing in our society which should not be actually. Just like, our facilitator Bhudeb Singa was successful in making realize Naharul, the contributions made to the society by the female, Naharul was successful in giving us a lesson by sharing this small incident.
