Ahwaan Foundation is a youth-run, registered, non-profit organisation in New Delhi working in the area of women and child rights, with a focus on their right to protection and development.

The team at Ahwaan includes young volunteers from diverse fields such as theatre, films, social work and those who have chosen to come together, engage with and contribute to the social development of the country.

Ahwaan had a humble beginning in 2006 when four college students came together with a shared mission to increase awareness about social issues, using theatre and film as a medium to create impact.

Over the past ten years, the group has worked with various organisations on a wide range of social issues such as globalisation, environment protection, rights of women and children, anti-tobacco and female foeticide in India.

In 2007, Ahwaan organised a film festival at Alliance Francaise, Delhi that provided a platform to young, socially conscious filmmakers to showcase their work.

Ahwaan has produced two documentary films:

  1. The Holy Wives (2010) on caste-based sexual exploitation of women and children in India
  2. Rainbows are Real (2014) on rights of the transgender community
