Ahwaan had a humble beginning in 2006 when four collegestudents came together with a shared missionto increase awarenessabout social issues, using theatre and film as a medium to create impact. Over the past ten years,thegroup has worked with various organizations on a wide range of socialissues such as globalization, environment protection, rights of womenandchildren, anti-tobacco, female foeticide in India, etc. In 2007, Ahwaan organized afilmfestival at Alliance Francaise, Delhi that provided a platformtoyoung, socially conscious filmmakers to showcase their work.
Ahwaan hasproduced two documentary movies:
- The Holy Wives(2010) on caste-based sexual exploitation of women and children in India, and
- Rainbows are Real(2014) on rights of the transgender community.
