Agrini was started with the thought of creating sustainable impact through education and awareness using new techniques in November 2009. It received incubation support of ComMutiny.
The group of young people who founded Agrini included Gaurav Jaiswal, Prabha, Vishwa Karma, Vinita Jaiswal, Santosh Choubey, Om Prakash Jaiswal, Sandeep Jaiswal and Shri Chand Shrvastri. From this group, Gaurav was a Commutineer from 2008 to 2009.
Agrini works in Seoni District of Madhya Pradesh with the theory of change that if rural students have access to relevant high quality education in their villages then they will collectively create an aware and sensitive rural community.
This sensitised community will then be equipped to take responsibility for development in their village, ultimately leading to sustainable rural development.
Agrini’s various programmes include:
1. Neev – that equips Anganwadi centers with advanced learning techniques like multimedia, toys and puppetry. Anganwadi workers apply these new tools themselves and transform Anganwadi centers into efficient rural nursery schools.
This initiative has increased attendance and learning of children in schools while making their community aware about the need for early childhood education.
2. Gramodaya – is a new model of community owned rural school. SHGs from a village come together to practice different livelihood generation activities and become teachers for rural youth. This way rural development and education goes hand in hand.
The first such model is being worked out in a village with great results. Shikshalaya, a new concept of connecting rural students and youngsters to innovative ways of out of school learning is integral to this.
3. Community School – Agrini also works to enhance quality of education by improving infrastructure and facilities apart from training teachers. It recently started a community school in the tribal block of Kurai in Madhya Pradesh and is reaching out for support to arrange facilities for top quality education in the tribal areas.
